Residents back ‘clean and green’ services
PUBLIC satisfaction with recycling and street cleaning services is on the rise, according to the results of Watford’s community survey.
The number of people who are satisfied with street cleaning has gone up by 5% to 62%. The proportion dissatisfied has gone down 7% to 20%. On recycling 75% say they are satisfied with the council’s performance.
HOW IT WAS: In 2002, under Labour, Watford Borough Council received a formal warning from the government for lack of progress on recycling.
NOW: Under the Lib Dems, doorstep recycling collections mean that more than 40 per cent of Watford's domestic waste is recycled.
Dorothy says: ‘When I was elected, these were both failing services, for which the previous Labour administration was rightly criticised. We have introduced comprehensive recycling collections. We have also reorganised street cleaning, with more efficient work practices and more staff time spent cleaning the streets. This survey shows that people are noticing the improvements.
