Better
leisure facilities
DESIGNS are
being finalised
for new
swimming and
leisure facilities
at Woodside
and Central
Baths.
Dorothy says: ‘We need to renew
these facilities because they are
coming to the end of their useful
lives. It doesn’t help that over many
years the previous Labour
administration failed to operate a
planned maintenance programme.
‘The new buildings will be funded
from capital reserves not from the
council tax. When built they will
cost no more to
run than the
present leisure
services. So
council tax will
not go up to pay
for them. The
running costs will include a
provision for planned maintenance,
so that we don’t wait until things go
wrong and end up with a huge bill.’
The plan is for the new facility at
Woodside to be ready by 2008 and
at Central Baths to be open by 2010.
Dorothy says: ‘This is a major
investment, but one which is badly
needed if the town is to enjoy decent
leisure facilities in the future.’
