Crime
is lower in Watford!
READERS may have seen the banners in
Watford High Street highlighting the
reduction in crime in Watford over the
past year.
Although the occasional very serious
incident can give a misleading impression,
the reality is that Watford is a safe town
to be in. Action against crime really
works. In Watford over the last year:
violent crime is down 6%
burglary is down 18%
vehicle crime is down 12.7%
robbery is down 1%.
Dorothy says: ‘I am proud that Watford
Borough Council has played its part in this
achievement – working with the police
and other statutory bodies through the
Watford Community Safety Partnership.’
Tackling anti-social behaviour
Dorothy and Watford Borough Council
have also targeted anti-social behaviour –
tackling the problems that make people
feel unsafe in their neighbourhood – from
noise nuisance to graffiti and vandalism.
The council has been praised by the
Home Office for its work in tackling antisocial
behaviour. This has included not
only use of ASBOs, but also working with
young people to help them to stop their
offending behaviour.
The partnership has launched a special
hotline for reporting anti-social behaviour
in order to make sure that problems can
be identified and tackled – please use it.
